Role Purpose:

The Engineering Accounting Analyst is responsible for overseeing financial management and accounting related to capital expenditures. This role involves reviewing, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with procedures for the cost and asset components of projects within the capital investment program, from initiation to closure. The analyst will assist with all project-related accounting activities and analyze financial data. Acting as a liaison between Engineering and Utility-wide accounting groups, this position will identify expenditure trends, recommend process improvements, and represent accounting system enhancements. Additionally, the analyst will generate reports on financial performance metrics regularly and on an ad-hoc basis.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist regional Project Managers and the Director of Engineering with CapEx activities, ensuring adherence to financial policies and best practices related to capital cost and asset accounting. This includes:
    • Preparing and editing project metadata, timelines, and budget plans in the financial management platform.
    • Administering, analyzing, and correcting project cost and asset data, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in asset management.
    • Reconciling inventory through Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
    • Reviewing and reconciling sales and use tax charges as necessary.
    • Monitoring and analyzing project expenditures monthly, addressing data discrepancies with Accounting.
    • Identifying projects requiring authorization overruns and evaluating root causes.
    • Providing monthly financial analysis reports to Engineering staff.
    • Preparing expenditure reports for regulatory submissions by retrieving and customizing data from various systems.
    • Conducting cost queries to support the Director of Engineering with additional financial analyses.
  • Collaborate with Corporate stakeholders to identify and develop cost or process improvements related to accounting practices, including:
    • Presenting monthly financial analyses to the accounting team to inform strategic decisions.
    • Utilizing data to highlight areas for process enhancements within policies or financial systems.
    • Contributing to the development of processes supporting capital expenditure activities related to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) initiatives.
    • Assisting in document review and modifications to implement improvements.
    • Acting as a regional expert for accounting and ERP systems, participating in system upgrades and user training.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial, cost accounting, project control, or cost engineering.
  • Familiarity with Oracle-based financial/accounting/budgeting software is advantageous.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Experience with various budgeting, accounting, or analytical software.
  • Understanding of GAAP/IFRS accounting principles is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong numerical analysis and research skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with various stakeholders.
Required Certifications:
  • Eligibility for Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred.
