Role Purpose:

The Engineering Accounting Analyst is responsible for overseeing financial management and accounting related to capital expenditures. This role involves reviewing, monitoring, and ensuring compliance with procedures regarding the cost and asset components of projects within the capital investment program from inception to completion. The analyst will support all project-related accounting activities and conduct financial analyses of projects. Acting as a liaison between Engineering and Utility-wide accounting groups, this position will identify expenditure trends, recommend process improvements, and represent accounting system enhancements. Additionally, the analyst will generate reports on financial performance metrics regularly and as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist regional Project Managers and the Director of Engineering with capital expenditure activities, ensuring adherence to financial policies and best practices related to cost and asset accounting. Responsibilities include:
    • Prepare and update project metadata, timelines, and budget plans in the financial management system.
    • Administer, analyze, and rectify project cost and asset data, collaborating with stakeholders to enhance accuracy and efficiency in asset management.
    • Conduct inventory reconciliations using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
    • Review and reconcile sales and use tax charges as necessary.
    • Monitor and analyze project expenditures monthly, utilizing ERP systems for cost queries and complex financial analyses, addressing data discrepancies with the Accounting team.
    • Identify projects requiring authorization overruns and evaluate their root causes.
    • Provide monthly financial analysis reports to Engineering staff.
    • Prepare expenditure reports for regulatory compliance, retrieving data from various systems to create tailored reports.
    • Conduct cost queries to assist the Director of Engineering with additional financial analyses.
  • Collaborate with Corporate stakeholders to identify and develop opportunities for cost and process improvements in cost and asset accounting, participating in optimization initiatives. Responsibilities include:
    • Present monthly financial analyses to the accounting team to inform strategic business decisions.
    • Utilize data to identify and propose process improvements within policies or financial systems to enhance financial accounting integrity.
    • Contribute to the development of processes supporting capital expenditure activities related to Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) initiatives.
    • Assist in reviewing and modifying documentation to implement these enhancements.
    • Act as a regional expert for accounting and ERP systems, participating in improvement projects, user acceptance testing, and training for regional users upon implementation.
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Accounting.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in financial, cost accounting, project control, or cost engineering.
  • Familiarity with Oracle-based financial/accounting/budgeting software is advantageous.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
  • Experience with various budgeting, accounting, or analytical software.
  • Understanding of GAAP/IFRS accounting principles is preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong numerical analysis, evaluation, and research skills, demonstrating integrity and sound judgment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite applications.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, computer, and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with engineers, project managers, and finance teams regarding projects and capital expenditures.
Certifications:
  • Eligibility for Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification is preferred.
