POSITION: Infant / Toddler / Preschool Teacher

ORGANIZATION: Mount Washington Preschool and Child Care Center, Inc.

DIVISION: Harry Pregerson Child Care Center, Joy Picus Child Development Center, Tiny DOTs Early Education Center

SUPERVISION: Reports to Site Supervisor, Assistant Site Supervisor

ROLE SUMMARY: This role is essential in creating a nurturing and engaging atmosphere for children, ensuring that the environment is organized, welcoming, and conducive to learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with fellow educators to design and execute a curriculum that meets developmental milestones.
  • Oversee the classroom for children aged 0 to 30 months.
  • Provide attentive and responsive care to children.
  • Assist the Supervisor in upholding a high-quality educational program in compliance with state regulations and NAEYC standards.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy indoor and outdoor setting.
  • Document children's developmental progress through comprehensive portfolios that include assessments and observations.
  • Conduct regular parent meetings to discuss children's growth and developmental needs.
  • Exemplify positive behavior and language for both children and staff.
  • Participate in all required meetings and training sessions.
  • Manage diaper changes and clothing adjustments as necessary.
  • Support the Supervisor with additional tasks as required.
  • Execute daily classroom operations, including activity setup, transitions, and cleanup.
  • Administer first aid to children when necessary and follow emergency protocols.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management.

SUPERVISORY ROLE:

  • This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Progress towards an AA, BA, or MA in Early Childhood Development, Human Development, or a related discipline.

  1. Completion of 24 units in child development and 3 units specific to Infant/Toddler education.
  • Required certifications include:
    1. CPR Infant & Child Certification.
    2. First Aid Certification.
    3. Current immunizations: MMR, Tdap, TB test, Influenza Shot or waiver.
    4. Compliance with all training requirements set by the Community Care Licensing division.
  • Proficient in computer skills: Internet Software; Word Processing Software (Word).
  • Additional skills required:
    1. Strong understanding of child development theories and experience with play-based early childhood practices.
    2. Minimum of 1-year experience with children or 6 months in an infant room.
    3. Experience in planning and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum.
    4. Experience in documenting children's developmental progress.
    5. Knowledge of Community Care Licensing Title 22 and NAEYC standards.
    6. Ability to communicate effectively in English with children, parents, and colleagues.
    7. Familiarity with hand-washing and diapering procedures.
    8. Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with staff.
    9. Ability to resolve conflicts professionally.
    10. Understanding of responsive caregiving approaches for infants and toddlers.
    11. Capability to follow instructions from the Center Director.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 35 pounds.
