Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced ASL instructor and coordinator to join our team at The Learning Center for the Deaf. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating, evaluating, and teaching ASL classes for our community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage class instructors and their assignments in a timely manner using our scheduling platform.
  • Work closely with our Advancement Office to meet marketing and communications needs.
  • Provide assessments, ratings, and observations for community members, families, and staff, identifying support ASL needs and additional requests.
  • Collaborate with our Equity and Inclusion Office to coordinate screening, mentoring, tutoring, internship, and additional support to improve language use.
  • Participate in collaborative initiatives to enhance language development and training within TLC and through external partnerships.
  • Attend in-service and staff development activities as appropriate.
  • Teach ASL classes at least 50% of scheduled hours.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Department Supervisor.

Requirements:

  • Five years of experience teaching ASL or a bachelor's degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Education, ASL Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Native or near-native fluency in American Sign Language required.
  • Possess, or be willing to obtain within one year, a score of Superior or Superior Plus on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) or a score of ASLPI 4 or above on the American Sign Language Proficiency Interview (ASLPI).
  • Documented formal training in using Sign Naturally or True+Way ASL Curriculum, or demonstrated ability to teach ASL using the curriculum.
  • Strong computer and office skills, particularly in G Suite/Google.
  • Proficiency in written English skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to effectively handle multiple projects.

Salary: $35.00 hourly.
