Cardiovascular Sonographer

We are seeking a highly skilled Cardiovascular Sonographer to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a key member of our Heart and Vascular Institute, you will play a critical role in providing diagnostic information for the treatment of patients.
Key Responsibilities- Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound imaging and therapeutic services, including patient care and support.
- Oversee daily work flow and problem-solving in designated specialized modalities.
- Maintain expertise in designated modalities and provide orientation to new staff members.
- Support cardiovascular staff by promoting cooperative problem-solving and team building.
- Assist with quality assurance functions and monitor inventory of medical supplies.
- Provide direct feedback to supervisors regarding technologist performance.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and report failures immediately.
- Support development of protocols with supervisors, cardiologists, and vascular surgeons.
- Participate in human resource functions related to interviewing, selection, and retention of staff.
- Ensure consistent practice of quality imaging among all shifts and individuals.
- Plan and perform imaging procedures to produce sonography medical images.
- Demonstrate knowledge and technical aspects of the position, maintaining professional and technical competencies.
- Review physician orders completely and refer any questions to the sonologist or referring physician.
- Participate in in-house training and development offerings and apply resultant skills and knowledge to position performance.
- Perform high-level disinfection of ultrasound equipment and produce images of optimal quality.
- Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging.
- Assess patient needs and provide imaging related to comfort, hygiene, range of motion, and support.
- Prepare sterile trays and educate patients regarding cardiovascular procedures.
- Engage in problem-solving, crisis management, systems implementation, and performance improvements.
- Display imaging techniques, patient care, and guest relation behaviors in accordance with institutional policies and procedures.
- Participate in coordination of daily work flow and provide clinical supervision and instruction.
- Ensure that all vital components of the imaging process are completed in their entirety.
- Ability to differentiate various shades of gray as depicted on a black and white television monitor or photograph.
- Ability to sit, stand, and walk for prolonged periods of time.
- Ability to wear a lead apron weighing approximately 8 to 15 pounds for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds of weight.
- Ability to carry items of up to 20 pounds.
- Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids.
