Senior HMI Engineer for Intelligent Systems

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced professional with a strong background in Human Factors, Human-Machine Interface, and Human-centered Artificial Intelligence. This role is pivotal in advancing our vision of intelligent systems that work collaboratively with humans across various sectors including manufacturing, assembly, servicing, inspection, and repair of products, as well as in human-autonomy collaboration and robotic learning.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contribute to the formulation and execution of a research agenda focused on Human-Machine Interaction. Provide expertise in this domain and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to explore innovative research opportunities.
- Design and implement work-support solutions that leverage principles of human perception, cognition, and decision-making to meet client requirements.
- Oversee and coordinate the efforts of researchers, designers, and software engineers to develop and assess solution concepts within a user-centered design framework.
- Establish and nurture partnerships with leading global institutions, including universities, government agencies, and professional organizations, to achieve organizational goals.
- Lead and participate in both externally and internally funded programs, including the preparation of research proposals, technical reports, and scholarly publications.
- A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in fields related to human state assessment, performance enhancement, physiological event detection, health and wellness, and medical diagnostics.
- Extensive experience (10+ years) in Human-centered AI, including areas such as human-AI trust, human-AI collaboration, and reinforcement learning.
- Proficiency in designing and evaluating Augmented and/or Virtual Reality technologies.
- Experience collaborating with government organizations such as DARPA, AFRL, ONR, ARL, or IARPA.
- Demonstrated ability in proposal writing, customer engagement, and presenting at technical conferences.
- Expertise in autonomous systems, intelligence analysis, or tactical aviation.
- Experience in designing and executing human subjects research programs.
- Ability to innovate and apply technologies to solve complex real-world challenges.
- Knowledge of advanced machine learning algorithms and autonomy systems.
- U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required.
- A university degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with at least 7 years of experience.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with a proven track record of teamwork and innovation.
- Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including management, researchers, and clients.
- Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while focusing on results.
- Independence in working with minimal supervision in a multidisciplinary setting.
- Familiarity with machine learning tools and software.
- Proficiency in data science software tools.
