Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Tungsten Engineer to manage the global Tungsten investment for our Quartz business.

The successful candidate will work closely with raw material suppliers, external machine shops, and global furnace teams to ensure set-up levels are adequate and that the furnaces are producing a quality product.

Key Responsibilities
  1. New set-up design, including assembly and part drawings, BOMs, machining, and fabrication instructions
  2. Existing set-up support, ordering, refurbishing, and/or modifying existing Tungsten inventory
  3. Partner with the commodity manager in negotiations with tool fabricating vendors and suppliers, quotes, vendor approval, and vendors' interface during fabrication
  4. Physical inspection of completed set-ups
  5. Complete root cause investigations and corrective actions as needed on Tungsten-related furnace failures; complete post-run reviews as needed to understand furnace performance and any optimizations needed for next setups
  6. Responsible for yearly investment budget for all Tungsten investment and ensuring that capital and expense budgets are maintained
  7. Integrate all critical documents into the quality management system
  8. Create/update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all Tungsten processes and generate safety job instructions
  9. Participate in new tool design reviews; manage all engineering test requests and management of change (MOC) process, both internally and externally
  10. Manage new Tungsten set-ups cradle-to-grave, including scrap sales auctions
  11. Review part prints for accuracy, tolerance feasibility, and material specifications
  12. Create RFQs; send to vendors for tooling and capital quotes, analyze the quotes, and make recommendations to Purchasing
  13. Develop contingency plans for single-source operations and materials; manage validation plans for associated qualifications/changes with Tungsten and associated changes
  14. Communicate quality requirements needed to meet expectations for furnace set-ups
  15. Act as the main point of contact and provide technical support to external shops and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot and ensure tooling and capital meets company standards
  16. Manage scale-up to higher volume manufacturing in the development project for internal machining
  17. Develop and assess long-range plans for expanded capabilities and investment required
  18. Oversee furnace trials and testing relative to Tungsten modifications to ensure accuracy of the test and results
Requirements
  • BS degree in engineering or related field, preferred Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Glass Engineering
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing work environment (required)
  • Strong leadership and motivation skills within all layers of the business
  • Collaborative style to pull expertise and feedback on challenges from internal teams and work together to generate/action solutions
  • Confident communications, both written and verbal
  • Excellent proficiency in all Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Proven organization skills, both in staffing and logistics within a manufacturing environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt certification (preferred), with solid statistical analysis and problem-solving expertise
  • SAP experience (or comparable ERP knowledge)
  • Machining experience - Turning, Milling, and CMM
  • Working knowledge of Solid Works and/or CAD
