Job Overview

Are you ready to transition from the field to the office and enhance your career by supporting construction litigation claims?

As a key member of the Litigation and Damages team, you will play a crucial role in formulating construction cost assessments that are essential for the preparation and analysis of construction defect litigation claims. Your responsibilities will encompass evaluating alleged construction deficiencies across various domains, including but not limited to siding, roofing, framing, and foundations. You will also be tasked with reviewing construction documents and financial records, as well as conducting research to ascertain fair costs owed to involved parties in legal disputes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate detailed cost assessments for repair scopes based on engineering evaluations, focusing on areas such as cladding, framing, and roofing for reconstruction initiatives.
  • Analyze and price repair suggestions provided by Engineers or Architects that outline alleged construction and design flaws.
  • Interpret relevant building codes in relation to repair scopes and pricing.
  • Utilize On-Screen Takeoff for quantifying repair scopes and employ Xactimate / RS Means for researching unit pricing. Solicit bids from subcontractors and vendors, ensuring compliance with the proposed scope of work. Document findings in Excel.
  • Maintain comprehensive notes detailing the rationale behind each estimate.
  • Examine construction plans, documents, and contracts to clarify responsibilities and allocate cost estimates to the parties accountable for the alleged defects.
  • Support the project team in drafting sections of expert reports.
  • Conduct periodic site evaluations and document actual conditions.
  • Represent The Vertex Companies, LLC professionally during site inspections and meetings with clients.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management preferred, along with relevant experience in construction estimating, restoration, engineering, or consulting.
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in an estimation role focused on vertical construction, whether commercial or residential, including ground-up or restoration estimation.
  • Ability to interpret construction plans and comprehend construction methods; proficient in cost estimating for repair recommendations.
  • Strong attention to detail with effective task prioritization skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office, particularly advanced Excel skills; familiarity with scheduling applications (P6) is a plus.
  • Understanding of construction billing methods and practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel to client sites (valid driver's license required).
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with estimating databases (Xactimate, RSMeans, etc.) is advantageous.
  • OSHA-10 or -30 construction safety certification is preferred.
  • AACE or other estimating certifications are beneficial.
  • Construction Management certifications are a plus.
  • Ability to navigate client sites during inspections, including uneven terrain, and carry construction tools and equipment (up to 30 pounds).
