U.S. Army CBRN Defense Specialist Position

The U.S. Army is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) Specialists. These specialists play a vital role in safeguarding the nation against the threats posed by CBRN weapons and Weapons of Mass Destruction.

Job Overview

As a CBRN Specialist, you will be responsible for implementing and maintaining defense measures against CBRN threats. Your duties will encompass training military personnel and civilians on CBRN response protocols, operating and maintaining specialized detection and decontamination equipment, and serving in various units dedicated to CBRN defense.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and implement CBRN defense strategies.
  • Provide expert guidance and supervision on CBRN equipment and operations.
  • Conduct comprehensive training programs for military and civilian personnel on CBRN response procedures.
  • Operate and maintain advanced CBRN detection and decontamination systems.
  • Serve as a vital member of specialized units, including Biological Integrated Detection Teams, STRYKER NBC Reconnaissance Platoons, Technical Escort Battalions, Special Forces, and Ranger Units.
Qualifications and Training

To become a CBRN Specialist, you must first take the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) to assess your strengths and aptitudes. Successful candidates will undergo rigorous training, including 10 weeks of basic training and 11 weeks of Advanced Individual Training.

During your training, you will acquire essential skills in:

  • Operating CBRN decontamination, defense, detection, and monitoring equipment.
  • Preparing for CBRN defense actions and procedures.
  • Proper use and maintenance of protective equipment.
  • Hazardous Material Certification (at the awareness level).
  • Exposure to toxic agents while wearing CBRN protective gear.
Desired Skills and Attributes

Ideal candidates possess strong communication skills, a keen interest in scientific fields such as chemistry, physics, and mathematics, and the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure. Organizational skills and the capacity to work effectively within a team are also highly valued.
