About the Role

Vast is seeking a highly skilled Electromagnetic Interference and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI-EMC) Engineer to join our team. As an EMI-EMC Engineer at Vast, you will play a critical role in the development of systems that will be required for the design and build of artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop EMI-EMC Requirements: Create and implement EMI-EMC requirements for Vast spacecraft and components.
  • Derive and Distribute EMI & In-Space Environmental Requirements: Derive and distribute EMI & in-space environmental requirements for Vast spacecraft and components.
  • Implement Industry Standards: Implement tailored industry standards for Vast spacecraft and avionics.
  • Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams: Work directly with cross-functional teams to guide best practices for EMI-EMC design & test.
  • Perform Analysis and Measurement: Perform analysis & measurement on avionics sub-circuits, components, and systems to enhance our understanding of EMI-EMC performance & risk as well as generate launch provider deliverables.
  • Support EMI-EMC Qualification Testing: Support EMI-EMC qualification test of Vast spacecraft and components.
  • Culture of Extreme Ownership: Contribute to a culture of extreme ownership by understanding and articulating to others how EMI relates to all subsystems and disciplines in human-rated spacecraft.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Related STEM Discipline: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related STEM discipline.
  • 2+ Years of Experience in EMI/EMC/Physics-Related Role: 2+ years of experience working in EMI/EMC/physics-related role.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Related STEM Discipline: Master's degree in electrical engineering, physics, or related STEM discipline.
  • Experience in EMI/EMC, In-Space Charging, Triboelectrification, Grounding & Bonding: Experience in EMI/EMC, in-space charging for spacecraft, triboelectrification, grounding & bonding.
  • Prior Experience in Electronics or Electrical Systems Design Role: Prior experience in an electronics or electrical systems design role.
  • Experience with Software Development in Matlab, Python, etc.: Experience with software development in Matlab, Python, etc.
  • Experience with Digital Communications Standards: Experience with digital communications standards such as Ethernet, RS-422, PCIe, GMII, etc.
  • Experience with MIL-STD-461 Compliance Testing: Experience with MIL-STD-461 compliance test (procedures, facilities, equipment, etc).
  • Background in Electromagnetics, Ionizing Radiation, and Plasma Effects on Spacecraft Systems: Background in electromagnetics, ionizing radiation, and plasma effects on spacecraft systems.
  • Strong Sense of Accountability and Integrity: Strong sense of accountability and integrity with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to Effectively Communicate with Cross-Disciplinary Teams: Ability to effectively communicate with cross-disciplinary teams.
