About the Role

Vast is seeking a highly skilled Senior Electromagnetic Interference and Electromagnetic Compatibility Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in the development of our artificial-gravity human-rated space stations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership to the EMI-EMC team, making informed decisions based on experience and engineering fundamentals.
  • EMI-EMC Requirements Development: Develop EMI-EMC requirements for Vast spacecraft and components, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Derivation and Distribution of EMI and Environmental Requirements: Derive and distribute EMI and in-space environmental requirements, ensuring seamless integration with cross-functional teams.
  • Standardization and Tailoring: Tailor industry standards for Vast spacecraft and missions, ensuring optimal performance and risk mitigation.
  • Collaboration and Guidance: Work closely with cross-functional teams to guide best practices for EMI-EMC design and test, ensuring a culture of excellence.
  • Analysis and Measurement: Perform analysis and measurement on avionics sub-circuits, components, and systems to enhance our understanding of EMI-EMC performance and risk.
  • Qualification Testing: Support EMI-EMC qualification testing of Vast spacecraft and components, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Culture of Ownership: Contribute to a culture of extreme ownership by understanding and articulating the relationship between EMI and all subsystems and disciplines in human-rated spacecraft.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • Experience: 4+ years of experience working in EMI/EMC/Physics-related roles.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Advanced Education: Master's or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related STEM discipline.
  • EMI-EMC Expertise: Experience in EMI/EMC, in-space charging for spacecraft, triboelectrification, grounding, and bonding.
  • Electronics Design: Prior experience in electronics or electrical systems design roles.
  • Software Development: Experience with software development and modeling in Matlab, Python, etc.
  • Digital Communications: Experience with digital communications standards such as Ethernet, RS-422, PCIe, GMII, etc.
  • MIL-STD-461 Compliance: Experience with MIL-STD-461 compliance testing (procedures, facilities, equipment, etc.).
  • Electromagnetics and Plasma Effects: Deep understanding of electromagnetics, plasma effects, and triboelectric effects on spacecraft systems.
  • Communication and Teaching: Strong sense of accountability and integrity, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to teach people of various education and industry backgrounds about EMI-EMC.
