The COMET contract encompasses comprehensive management and execution of ground systems capabilities, processing of flight hardware, and launch operations at a leading space center. These responsibilities will support various significant programs.

The chosen candidate will oversee the daily operations of the Ground Support Technical Operations (GSTO) group, contributing to a prominent space exploration initiative. The role involves supporting Launch Vehicle Processing, Testing, and Validation of both flight and ground systems.

As an Operational Technician, you will assist in Launch Vehicle Processing, Testing, and Validation of flight hardware and related ground systems. You will also interpret engineering drawings and adhere to strict safety protocols; passing a physical examination and maintaining a security clearance is essential; you must be available for shift work, weekends, and reasonable overtime as necessary.

Qualifications:

This position may be available at various levels. Depending on experience and business requirements, we may consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent, along with one year of relevant experience or equivalent technical training.

A background in mechanical and/or electrical fields, particularly in aviation or aerospace, is highly advantageous.

Ability to follow work instructions, interpret engineering drawings, and comply with stringent safety protocols is required.

Strong communication skills are essential.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) is necessary.

Must be able to pass a physical examination and maintain a security clearance.

Availability for shift work, weekends, and reasonable overtime is required.

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements:

  • Tasks may involve handling and transporting hazardous materials (if qualified).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to distinguish between colors (e.g., blue and green wires).
  • Compliance with safety policies and regulations is mandatory.
  • Must possess 90% range of limb motion.
  • Use of personal protective equipment is required where necessary.
  • Ability to climb ladders, towers, and stairs.
  • Physical exertion may be required in confined spaces and while climbing, lifting, or carrying.

Work Environment:

  • All tasks must be performed safely, adhering to safety standards.
  • Work will primarily be indoors, but fieldwork may require both indoor and outdoor settings.
  • Working at heights and in confined spaces may be necessary.
  • Work will involve equipment and stations in support of operations.

Equipment and Machines:

  • Operate and maintain handling equipment such as forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Utilize computer terminals and related equipment to maintain records and logs, print documents, and document work performance.

Attendance:

  • Work assignments typically consist of 8-hour shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
  • Dependability and punctuality are essential.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet demanding schedules.

Other Essential Functions:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain necessary certifications for operating material handling equipment.
  • Effective interaction with colleagues and supervisors is crucial.
  • Accurate communication of ideas in both written and verbal forms is necessary.
  • Future government security clearance may be required.
  • Must pass a federal background investigation.
  • Professional grooming and attire are required for safety.
  • Compliance with all drug-free workplace requirements is mandatory.
  • Must pass all applicable physical examinations for this position.
  • A valid Florida Class D motor vehicle license is required.
