The COMET contract oversees the management and execution of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at a prominent space center. These responsibilities support various programs, including the International Space Station and the Space Launch System.

The chosen candidate will engage in the daily operations of the Ground Support Technical Operations (GSTO) team, contributing to a significant space exploration initiative. Responsibilities will include supporting Launch Vehicle Processing, Testing, and Validation of both flight and ground systems.

As an Operational Technician, you will assist in Launch Vehicle Processing, Testing, and Validation of flight hardware and associated ground systems. You will be required to interpret engineering drawings and adhere to strict safety protocols; passing a physical examination and maintaining a security clearance are mandatory. Additionally, you must be available for shift work, weekends, and reasonable overtime as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

This position may be filled at various levels based on the candidate's experience and organizational needs.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, along with one year of relevant experience or equivalent technical training.

A background in mechanical and/or electrical fields, particularly in aviation or aerospace, is highly preferred.

Candidates must be able to follow work instructions, interpret engineering drawings, and comply with rigorous safety protocols.

Strong communication skills are essential.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.

Must be able to pass a physical examination and maintain a security clearance.

Availability for shift work, weekends, and reasonable overtime is necessary.

Key Responsibilities:

Physical Requirements:

  • Tasks may involve handling hazardous materials and transportation of such (if qualified).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to distinguish between colors (e.g., blue and green wires).
  • Compliance with safety policies and regulations is essential.
  • Must possess a 90% range of limb movement.
  • Use of safety protective equipment is required where applicable.
  • Ability to climb ladders, towers, and stairs.
  • Physical exertion may be necessary in various tasks.

Work Environment:

  • All tasks must be performed safely in accordance with established safety standards.
  • Work will primarily be conducted indoors, with some outdoor fieldwork depending on project requirements.
  • Working at heights and in confined spaces may be necessary.
  • Engagement with equipment and stations in support of launch operations.

Equipment and Machines:

  • Operate and maintain handling equipment such as forklifts and other specific material handling tools.
  • Utilize computer terminals and related equipment to maintain records and document work performance.

Attendance Expectations:

  • Standard work assignments are typically 8-hour shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
  • Dependability and punctuality are crucial.
  • Occasional overtime may be required with short notice to meet project deadlines.

Additional Essential Functions:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain necessary certifications for operating material handling equipment.
  • Effective interaction with colleagues and supervisors is essential.
  • Accurate communication of ideas in both written and verbal forms is necessary.
  • Future government security clearance may be required.
  • Must pass a federal background investigation.
  • Professional grooming and attire must be maintained.
  • Compliance with all workplace drug-free policies is mandatory.
  • Must pass all relevant physical examinations required for this role.
  • A valid motor vehicle license is required.
