The COMET contract oversees the management and execution of ground systems capabilities, processing of flight hardware, and launch operations at a prominent space center. These responsibilities will support various space exploration initiatives.

The selected individual will manage daily operations within the Ground Support Technical Operations (GSTO) team, contributing to a significant space program. Responsibilities include supporting the processing, testing, and validation of flight and ground systems.

As an Operational Technician, you will assist in the processing, testing, and validation of flight hardware and related ground systems. You will also interpret engineering drawings and adhere to strict safety protocols; passing a physical examination and maintaining a security clearance are essential. Availability for shift work, weekends, and reasonable overtime is required.

Qualifications:

This position is available at various levels. Depending on the candidate's qualifications and organizational needs, we may consider applicants at any level for which this position is advertised.

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent with one year of relevant experience or equivalent technical training.

A background in mechanical and/or electrical fields, particularly in aviation or aerospace, is highly advantageous.

Ability to follow work instructions, interpret engineering drawings, and comply with stringent safety protocols is necessary.

Strong communication skills are essential.

Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook) is required.

Must pass a physical examination and maintain a security clearance.

Willingness to support shift work, weekends, and reasonable overtime as needed.

Essential Functions:

Physical Requirements:

  • May involve handling and transporting hazardous materials (if qualified).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to distinguish colors (e.g., wiring).
  • Compliance with safety policies and regulations.
  • Ability to use limbs with 90% range of motion.

  • Capability to climb ladders, towers, and stairs.
  • Physical exertion may be required in confined spaces.

Work Environment:

  • All tasks must be performed safely in accordance with company and regulatory safety standards.
  • Work will primarily occur indoors, but may also involve outdoor tasks depending on project requirements.
  • Working at heights and in confined spaces may be necessary.
  • Collaboration with equipment and stations in support of launches.

Equipment and Machines:

  • Operate and maintain handling equipment such as forklifts and other material handling equipment.
  • Utilize computer systems and peripherals to maintain records and document work performance.

Attendance:

  • Standard work assignments are typically 8-hour shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
  • Dependability and punctuality are crucial.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet project deadlines.

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Ability to obtain necessary certifications for operating material handling equipment.
  • Effective interaction with colleagues and supervisors is essential.
  • Accurate communication of ideas in both written and verbal forms is required.
  • Future government security clearance may be necessary.
  • Must pass a federal background investigation.
  • Grooming and attire must be appropriate for the role and not pose safety risks.
  • Compliance with all drug-free workplace policies is mandatory.
  • Must pass all applicable physical examinations required for this position.
  • A valid Florida Class D motor vehicle license is required.
