Overview

This role is situated within various departments and offices throughout the Pentagon Force Protection Agency (PFPA), focusing on inquiries related to: unlawful activities; protective intelligence issues; employee misconduct; administrative concerns; evaluations and personnel security measures. Positions are primarily based in the Threat Management Directorate.

Responsibilities

The incumbent's typical job functions may encompass the following:
  • Oversees a designated area of responsibility to execute the security strategy in support of the HRP's safety.
  • Conducts comprehensive criminal investigative tasks, addressing criminal and administrative infractions against individuals and property.
  • Executes crime scene investigations for evidence collection and documentation.
  • Suggests necessary corrective measures for identified shortcomings.

  • The incumbent must comply with DoD Standards of Conduct.
  • Position may necessitate extensive travel outside the continental United States in combat zones as well as outside of the assigned office commuting area for investigations, training, and conferences.
  • Position requires a constant state of physical readiness and the ability to demonstrate maximum physical exertion without prior notice.
  • Annual medical and physical examinations are required; the incumbent must carry and qualify with PFPA designated firearms.
  • This position is Mission Essential. Mission Essential employees are expected to report for, or remain at, work during adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, or other emergency situations.
  • The incumbent must maintain a valid driver's license from their state of residence.
  • The incumbent must be in a constant state of physical readiness and capable of demonstrating maximum physical exertion without warning.
  • Medical requirements include good near and distant vision, the ability to distinguish basic colors, emotional and mental stability, and the ability to hear conversational speech.
  • LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: This position requires the incumbent to carry a firearm. Individuals convicted of a felony or misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess a firearm or ammunition.
Qualifications

Continued Condition of Employment
  • This position is covered by the law enforcement officer retirement provisions. Applicants must be appointed by the last day of the month in which they turn 37, unless there is sufficient prior Federal Service in a covered law enforcement or firefighter position. Age restrictions may not apply to preference-eligible veterans granted a waiver.
  • This position is identified under the PFPA Civilian Mobility Program. Candidates selected for this position must sign a mobility agreement as a condition of employment. PFPA may relocate covered positions and employees between PFPA duty locations to enhance mission effectiveness or individual career progression.

    Employees may be required to travel extensively outside the continental United States in combat zones and outside of the assigned office commuting area for investigations, training, and conferences.

To qualify at the GS-12 level, you must fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates:

1) Conducting criminal or administrative investigations or protective service related to personnel or facilities; and

2) Providing guidance to officials involved in investigations or protective service operations; and

3) Presenting reports of investigation or special security assessments to internal or external partners.

To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must fulfill the following qualification requirement:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates:

1) Planning, organizing, and conducting surveillance, interviews with suspects, subjects, complainants, and witnesses; and

2) Conducting crime scene processing for evidence and documenting the crime scene; and

3) Analyzing criminal complaints, identifying patterns and trends related to criminal activities, and recommending appropriate actions based on investigative findings.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs and other organizations. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

ACTIVE-DUTY SERVICE MEMBERS: The VOW Act requires Federal agencies to treat active duty service members as veterans when they submit a certification of active service in lieu of a DD-214, assuming the service member is otherwise eligible.

Current or Former Political Appointees: Agencies must seek prior approval from OPM before appointing a current or recent political appointee to a competitive or non-political excepted service position.

Education

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpreting foreign education programs.
