The Fairfax County Government is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Police Apprentice. This is an exciting opportunity to embark on a career in law enforcement and contribute to the safety and well-being of our community.


About the Role

As a Police Apprentice, you will receive comprehensive on-the-job training in various aspects of law enforcement, including traffic control, crime prevention, communications, first aid, and crime scene investigation procedures. You will also have the opportunity to develop your skills in areas such as fingerprinting, photography, and communication systems.


Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the Police Apprentice include:


  • Participating in on-the-job training and receiving guidance from experienced law enforcement professionals;
  • Assisting in inventory control and receiving/issuing supplies;
  • Performing various administrative functions, including answering telephones and responding to information requests;
  • Assisting in emergency vehicle operations training and firearm familiarization courses;
  • Participating in crime scene investigation procedures and assisting in the handling of seized and stolen property.

Requirements

To be eligible for this role, you must:


  • Be a U.S. citizen or resident alien eligible for U.S. citizenship by age 21;
  • Have graduated high school or obtained a GED at the time of selection;
  • Meet the public safety/police officer medical standards;
  • Be willing to sign a Condition of Employment Agreement acknowledging the prohibition of tobacco product use on and off duty.

Selection Procedure

The selection process for this role includes a comprehensive background investigation, polygraph examination, medical exam, and final interview with the Personnel Resources Division Commander or his designee.
