About the Role

George Mason University is seeking a highly skilled Compliance Investigator to join our team in the Office for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (ODEI). As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the university's compliance with federal and state laws, including Title IX, VAWA, Title VII, and other related regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigations: Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into allegations of sex-based discrimination, harassment, and/or violence, including sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, sexual assault, interpersonal violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, retaliation, and complicity.
  • Case Outreach and Support: Provide initial outreach and support to Title IX reports, implement supportive measures, and provide referrals to other campus partners as needed.
  • Campus Training: Assist the Title IX Coordinator in developing and delivering campus-wide education and prevention trainings to provide legally mandated training to faculty, staff, and students.
  • ODEI Office Support: Engage with other ODEI staff in investigation and resolution of all forms of discrimination and carry out special projects and other related duties assigned within ODEI's scope.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in a related field
  • Demonstrated professional experience in Title IX, including assessment and outreach, investigation, and coordination of hearing processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of how to accurately analyze and apply legal and policy standards to specific factual situations
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with individuals from underrepresented groups
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to handle sensitive and/or stressful situations in a professional, confidential, and trauma-informed manner
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in crisis services or advocacy
  • Direct experience conducting investigations of cases involving sexual harassment, sexual assault, interpersonal violence, stalking, sexual exploitation, retaliation, or complicity
  • Experience working with both student and employee populations in higher education
  • Experience with higher education administrative adjudication processes for students and employees
  • Experience developing and presenting training, preferably on prohibited sexual harassment and discrimination issues
