About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer II to join our team at Blue Origin, where you will play a critical role in the development and operation of our reusable suborbital rocket system, New Shepard. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for investigating and resolving technical discrepancies in the actuated subsystem and related ground support equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and resolve technical discrepancies in the actuated subsystem and related ground support equipment
  • Author specifications and procedures for design, production, and maintenance efforts
  • Train for and participate in operations support during missions
  • Assist in the identification and implementation of design changes to improve system reliability and reduce operational costs
  • Support vehicle managers in assessing technical risk at mission readiness reviews
Requirements
  • Minimum of a B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience with designing, operating, and diagnosing hydraulic systems and hardware (actuators, valves, motors, mechanisms, etc.)
  • Basic proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred)
  • Basic proficiency in structural analysis including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS preferred)
  • Ability to communicate detailed technical recommendations to resolve discrepancies and anomalies
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and task ownership
  • Experience working in cross-discipline teams
  • Up to 25% travel to our West Texas launch facility to support launch and maintenance operations of our human spaceflight vehicles
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with designing, operating, and diagnosing hydraulic systems and hardware (actuators, valves, motors, mechanisms, etc.)
  • Familiarity with typical aerospace hydraulic standards and best practices
  • Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5)
  • Hands-on experience with machining, building, testing, and maintaining mechanical components and systems
  • Test instrumentation and data acquisition experience
  • Experience with engineering support of field operations
  • Experience with root cause analysis
  • Experience with high voltage systems
What We Offer

We offer a competitive compensation package, including a salary range of $89,820.00-$125,748.00, and a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, basic and supplemental life insurance, paid parental leave, short and long-term disability, 401(k) with a company match of up to 5%, and an Education Support Program. We also offer paid time off, up to four (4) weeks per year based on weekly scheduled hours, and up to 14 company-paid holidays. Discretionary bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
