Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Academic and Career Advisor to support the Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering Graduate students at Virginia Tech. The successful candidate will provide academic advising, career guidance, and support services to graduate students, ensuring their success and well-being throughout their academic journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide academic advising to graduate students, reviewing plans of study and assisting with the submission of required forms to the Graduate School.
  • Resolve graduate student issues and liaise with entities on campus to ensure timely and effective support.
  • Support orientations for incoming graduate students and workshops for continuing students, promoting academic success and career development.
  • Assist with annual graduate student orientations and periodic workshops, fostering a sense of community and connection among graduate students.
  • Assist with ECE graduate student communications, including deadline policies, submissions deadlines, graduate student events, research opportunities, and other timely communications.
  • Assist with prospective graduate student on-campus and virtual recruiting events, showcasing the university's programs and opportunities.
  • Assist in the organization of graduate school information sessions for VT undergraduate students, promoting academic excellence and career readiness.
  • Administration and recording of Annual ECE Graduate Student Evaluations, ensuring accurate and timely data collection.
  • Assist in maintaining the ECE Graduate Student Management Database for enrolled ECE graduate students, ensuring seamless data management and analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent level of training and/or experience.
  • Experience working with a diverse student population, promoting inclusivity and equity.
  • Experience using data management systems such as Microsoft Excel and presentation software such as Microsoft PowerPoint.
  • Experience providing administrative support to senior-level executives in a corporate or higher education environment.
