Position Overview:
Under the general oversight of the Financial Grants Manager, the incumbent will be tasked with managing financial transactions, overseeing general accounting practices, and ensuring compliance with established financial controls.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess an accredited Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
Core Competencies:
- Strong analytical abilities and the capacity to work autonomously.
- Proficient knowledge of general accounting principles, budgeting, payroll, and computerized accounting systems.
- Excellent prioritization skills to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
- Exceptional attention to detail is essential.
Transportation Requirements:
Access to reliable transportation is necessary.
Experience:
A minimum of two to three years of accounting experience is required, ideally within a non-profit organization. Experience should encompass financial reporting, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that equips the candidate with the necessary skills and knowledge may be considered at the discretion of the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer.
Licenses/Certifications:
A valid Michigan Driver's License is required.
Training:
Training will be provided as necessary.
Problem Solving and Interpersonal Skills:
The role demands a high level of problem-solving capabilities and decision-making skills. The ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and promote teamwork is crucial.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
The candidate must be diligent and alert in a dynamic and often fast-paced environment. The ability to maintain focus and concentration despite interruptions is necessary. The role requires the ability to sit at a desk for extended periods.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monthly reconciliation of General and Payroll bank accounts, ensuring cash balances align with the General Ledger and making necessary adjustments.
- Reconciliation of subsidiary accounts, including the Head Start Policy Council account and other minor accounts.
- Management of billing processes for various funding sources, both Federal and Non-Federal, including the review of contracts for reporting requirements.
- Monthly reconciliation of Accounts Receivable and Revenue by Fund, preparing work papers for outstanding amounts.
- Preparation of monthly and quarterly journal entries and maintenance of a log for recurring entries.
- Assistance with fiscal year-end closing activities, including the preparation of work papers for various grants.
- Maintenance of the Vendor Database, including the entry of new vendors and collection of IRS Form W-9s.
- Review of Non-Federal in-kind contributions as required by grantors, adhering to established financial policies.
Additional Information:
Successful candidates will be required to pass a criminal background check following a job offer and may need to complete a physical examination and TB test.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports directly to the Financial Grants Manager.
