Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Leachate and Landfill Gas Maintenance Technician to join our team at the City of Fargo. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing various mechanical and operational maintenance activities with the landfill leachate collection system and the landfill gas collection and control system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain equipment related to leachate collection and landfill gas collection systems in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance, observe and listen to equipment to determine malfunctions or parts in need of replacement, and operate equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs, such as cleaning out a clogged pump, replacing parts, or coordinating with supervisor to procure subcontractor services.
  • Oversee subcontractor services and maintain records regarding work activities, equipment operation, etc.
  • Collect qualitative landfill gas samples from various sources on a predetermined basis.
  • Communicate courteously and professionally with others in carrying out job functions.
  • Perform all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.
Requirements
  • A high school diploma and four or more years of previous experience in the operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, and related machinery.
  • A valid class B commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement and North Dakota Operator's Certificate.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations concerning leachate and landfill gas collection systems.
  • Knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of equipment used in the leachate and landfill gas collection process.
  • Knowledge of confined space entry and hazardous materials handling as related to leachate and landfill gas collection.
  • Knowledge of procedures of sampling and sample testing relative to leachate or landfill gas.
  • Basic level skill in computer use.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Working Conditions

The majority of work is performed in a field environment involving working inside and outside of vehicles. Seasonal conditions can include excessive heat or cold. Conditions can include working in wet, muddy, slippery, or dusty and windy conditions.

Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, digital dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, repetitive motions.

Very Heavy Work: Exerting in excess of pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
