Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Leachate and Landfill Gas Technician to join our team at the City of Fargo. As a key member of our landfill operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our leachate collection system and landfill gas collection and control system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate and maintain equipment related to leachate collection and landfill gas collection in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Perform daily preventative maintenance, observe and listen to equipment to determine malfunctions or parts in need of replacement, and perform minor repairs.
  • Collect qualitative landfill gas samples from various sources on a predetermined basis and maintain records regarding sampling, work activities, and equipment operation.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and supervisors to exchange detailed or technical information and maintain working relationships.
  • Perform all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.
Requirements
  • High school diploma and four or more years of previous experience in the operation and maintenance of pumps, motors, and related machinery.
  • Valid class B commercial driver's license with air brake endorsement and North Dakota Operator's Certificate.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations concerning leachate and landfill gas collection systems.
  • Knowledge of the proper operation and maintenance of equipment used in the leachate and landfill gas collection process.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Working Conditions

The majority of work is performed in a field environment involving working inside and outside of vehicles. Seasonal conditions can include excessive heat or cold, and there may be intermittent exposure to disagreeable working conditions.

Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, digital dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, seeing/observing, and repetitive motions are required.

This is a very heavy work position, requiring exertion in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently and in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
