The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Deputy Director for Emergency Operations in the Office of Asylum Seeker Operations (OASO). This critical role will play a key part in leading the City's response to the influx of asylum seekers and ensuring the provision of complex services, including legal supports, advocacy, shelter, education, workforce training, clothing and food donations, and collaboration with faith-based and community-based organizations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee continuity of operations (COOP) and emergency management planning tasks.
  • Conduct facility risk assessments for emergency planning activities.
  • Coordinate day-to-day emergency operations objectives and outcomes with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the Data and Technology Unit to track and respond to incidents.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to senior leadership on emergency operations and other relevant issues.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices.
Requirements:
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and five years of progressively responsible experience, including two years at the administrative or managerial level in a large governmental agency, business firm, civic or community organization operating in the area of social services.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in program coordination or City operations.
  • Knowledge of emergency operations, building code, and/or housing policy.
  • Experience in City government or with an organization which engages with City government required.
Preferred Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree in public policy, housing, operations, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Lived experience may be substituted for educational experience.
