Job Overview

The Sales Associate at the Museum of African American History plays a vital role in promoting the museum's mission through engaging interactions with visitors. Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide outstanding customer service, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all guests.
  • Proactively engage with customers to highlight and sell museum merchandise.
  • Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently in the museum's retail space.
  • Assist with visual merchandising, restocking, and maintaining an appealing store presentation to maximize sales.
  • Inform visitors about museum programs and events through knowledgeable and friendly interactions.
  • Gather and report visitor metrics while managing inventory of products.
  • Support various administrative tasks and collaborate effectively with team members in a dynamic environment.
  • Offer assistance through in-person, phone, and online channels to enhance sales opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a cashier role within a fast-paced setting (e.g., retail, entertainment venues).
  • Experience in a membership sales context is advantageous.
  • Proficient in data entry and familiar with office and database systems.
  • Knowledge of standard POS systems; familiarity with Shopify is preferred.
  • Ability to learn and implement effective sales strategies in a collaborative environment.
  • Strong customer service skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Passion for delivering exceptional service and a keen interest in African American history and culture.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Availability to work weekends and evenings as required for special events.
