Position Overview
The Senior Underwriter for Middle Market is responsible for making informed decisions regarding the underwriting of business by utilizing analytical and data-driven methodologies. This role involves pricing risks and, in certain regions of North America, underwriting complex or atypical policies, including those with significant individual line sizes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversees a portfolio of brokers, agents, and clients, leveraging market expertise to cultivate and underwrite profitable business while representing Liberty Mutual.
  • Maintains a robust market presence with established relationships among agents and brokers, focusing on strengthening existing connections and forging new ones.
  • Contributes innovative ideas for product development and engages in the execution of these initiatives. Participates in team projects aimed at process and tool enhancements, while understanding the implications of relevant legislation and regulations.
  • Collaborates effectively with various teams, stakeholders, and partners, including Underwriting Support, Claims, Actuarial, and Directors of Underwriting in GRS North America. Provides mentorship to junior underwriters and new hires, without formal line management responsibilities.
  • May analyze the department's portfolio and offer suggestions for its development, while identifying and communicating emerging trends within the line of business expertise.
Qualifications
  • A degree in Business or a related field is typically required.
  • A minimum of 2.5 years, usually 3 or more years, of progressive underwriting experience or related experience is expected.
  • CPCU or another professional insurance designation is preferred.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills to assess and evaluate underwriting risks within the scope of responsibility, including proficiency in all phases of the underwriting process and the use of qualitative and quantitative analysis tools.
  • Must exhibit a strong understanding of complex technical underwriting issues and be capable of defining and implementing necessary underwriting and administrative processes/workflows to effectively manage these issues.
  • A proven history of developing and underwriting profitable business is essential.
