Position Summary:

We are looking for mid- to senior-level Operations Engineers to contribute to the development, testing, and operational management of a NASA satellite mission. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting pre-launch mission operations preparations, which encompass operations concept development, participation in spacecraft integration and testing, and the formulation and validation of command procedures and mission operations plans.
  • Engaging in ground system integration and testing, ensuring operational validation of the ground segment, which includes creating test plans and procedures and taking part in system acceptance testing, ground readiness tests, and network readiness tests.
  • Participating in the operational validation of the integrated ground, flight, and launch segments, including interface tests, end-to-end tests, mission readiness assessments, mission simulations, and launch rehearsals.
  • Providing on-console shift support during launch and early orbit commissioning operations, and facilitating the transition to standard operations.
  • Offering operational support, which includes mission planning and scheduling, real-time operations, health and safety monitoring, performance analysis and trending, as well as anomaly investigation and resolution.
  • Contributing to the generation, maintenance, and configuration management of operations procedures and products.
  • Coordinating with NASA customers and interfacing organizations, along with status reporting.

Qualifications:

Candidates must possess a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in satellite mission operations and have familiarity with spacecraft systems, ground systems, mission control center interfaces, and the processes involved in ground and mission operations planning, preparation, and certification. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to work effectively both in teams and independently. Candidates should demonstrate initiative and self-motivation.

Experience with NASA missions, particularly in test and flight operations, is preferred. Knowledge of space-to-ground communications, mission planning, flight dynamics, spacecraft command and control systems, mission data management and storage, operations product generation, trending and analysis, and mission monitoring is also advantageous. Familiarity with LINUX, bash, shell, perl scripting, and STOL scripting is a plus.

U.S. citizenship is required, and selected applicants will undergo a government security investigation.

Educational Requirements:

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Engineering is required.

Work Location:

Beltsville, MD. Occasional travel within the continental U.S. may be necessary.
