Job Overview

Position Summary:

Omitron, Inc. is in search of a skilled professional to deliver expert navigation support for spacecraft operations, contributing to NASA's Flight Dynamics Facility (FDF). This facility plays a crucial role in managing flight dynamics for over 35 satellites across diverse orbital paths, analyzing both ground- and space-based tracking data, troubleshooting anomalies, certifying tracking stations, and providing essential support during launch and early orbit phases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conducting and refining daily orbit determination and prediction for spacecraft under FDF's purview.
  • Offering navigation assistance during launch and early orbit phases.
  • Leading navigation analyses and integrating innovative technologies and methodologies into FDF operations.
  • Documenting and sharing analytical findings through technical papers, journal articles, and informal discussions with the navigation team and stakeholders.
  • Assessing existing navigation processes at FDF to identify enhancements and promote technological advancements.
  • Participating in the validation, calibration, and certification of ground station tracking networks.
  • Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team of flight dynamics engineers.

Some travel may be necessary, and occasional off-hours support will be expected. The position allows for hybrid work arrangements and remote telework options.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in flight dynamics across various orbital regimes.
  • Strong grasp of batch least squares and Kalman filter estimation techniques.
  • Comprehensive understanding of spacecraft navigation and orbital mechanics.
  • Demonstrated expertise in satellite orbit determination and related tools.
  • Proficient in orbit design and modeling software such as STK or GMAT.
  • Experience in executing detailed orbit analyses.
  • Ability to tackle complex problems using effective problem-solving strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with satellite tracking data, including radiometric, GPS, and optical measurements.
  • Familiarity with NASA's tracking networks, including Space Network, Near Earth Network, and Deep Space Network.
  • Understanding of spacecraft communication systems and ground architecture.
  • Experience with orbit determination tools such as ODTK, GMAT, FreeFlyer, Monte, and GTDS.
  • Background in spacecraft operations.
  • Proficiency in developing tools using Python, Perl, or Matlab.
  • Experience in large-scale data analytics and algorithm development for automated processing.
  • Familiarity with both Windows and Linux operating systems.

Experience Requirement: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience is required. A Master's degree may substitute for 2 years of experience.

Educational Requirement: A Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
