Safety and Emergency Planning Manager

This role is responsible for overseeing all environmental and safety activities at Rollins College. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in safety and emergency planning, with experience in creating and implementing emergency management plans for a large diverse organization. The Safety and Emergency Planning Manager will work closely with the Director of Campus Safety to ensure that the college is in compliance with federal, state, and local laws, including NIMS/ICS, the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement emergency management plans for the college
  • Conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and develop strategies to mitigate them
  • Provide training and education to the Rollins College community on emergency preparedness and response
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure that emergency plans are integrated into college operations
  • Stay up-to-date on changing regulatory requirements and ensure that the college is in compliance

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Security Administration or Management, Public Safety, Occupational Health, or Industrial Hygiene or related discipline
  • Three to five years of management experience in the safety, emergency planning/continuity planning or industrial hygiene field
  • NIMS certifications: IS-100, IS-200, IS-300, IS-700, and IS-800

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Certified Emergency Manager certification
  • Experience working in a higher education setting
  • NIMS certification: IS-400

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Demonstrated leadership in administering safety and emergency plans
  • Clear moral compass and ability to fit into a team environment characterized by shared accountabilities
  • Extensive use of computers and Microsoft Office programs
  • Experience in creating, implementing, and delivering emergency management planning programs for a large diverse organization
  • Must possess a high level of customer service experience
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations over elongated periods of time that require high levels of communication and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to manage stressful situations and changing institutional priorities
  • Requires the ability to analyze all types of emergency situations to determine the best course of action and solve problems, excellent judgement and decision-making skills
  • A thorough understanding of emergency and safety practices in relationship to compliance with federal, state and local laws, including, but not limited to the requirements of NIMS/ICS, the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA), the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
