Position: Senior Director of Emergency Services

Organizational Mission:

As a progressive and vibrant social service organization, Father Bill's & MainSpring specializes in emergency and permanent housing solutions, job training, and preventive services for individuals and families in need. Our strategic focus for the upcoming years emphasizes the expansion of affordable, permanent supportive housing, enhancing care models for families experiencing homelessness, reducing shelter dependency, and fostering improved community relations.

Role Summary:

The Senior Director of Emergency Services will be responsible for overseeing all programmatic services delivered through emergency shelter initiatives across Southern Massachusetts, covering over 40 communities. This role will lead the response to homelessness with a focus on diversion strategies, rapid re-housing, and progressive engagement, while ensuring adherence to a harm reduction and low-threshold approach. A deep understanding and compassion for individuals facing homelessness and related challenges are essential. Supported by a team of Directors and managers, the Senior Director will oversee more than 100 staff members, managing all administrative, compliance, and service delivery activities related to various public and private grants and contracts, including rapid re-housing, diversion, and rental assistance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership: Ensure all programs and services are executed within a harm reduction, person-centered framework.
  • Strategic Planning: Engage in strategic planning and program development related to service delivery, contract fidelity, and program evaluation.
  • Policy Development: Participate in the creation and revision of agency and program-specific policies and protocols, leading the implementation of new or revised guidelines.
  • Community Engagement: Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing the organization at community events and meetings.
  • Financial Oversight: Monitor fund balances and ensure compliance with budgetary guidelines and fiscal practices.
  • Program Management: Ensure effective management of emergency services programs, working collaboratively with Program Directors to maintain appropriate internal controls and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a human service-related field preferred, with 5-8 years of progressive experience in a nonprofit environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Exceptional critical thinking, decision-making, project management, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading multiple teams effectively.
