Position Overview

The Senior Staff Accountant is responsible for the preparation, analysis, and review of financial statements and related activities in accordance with established accounting principles. This role also assists with capital requests, budget management, closing processes, conducts internal audits, and ensures accurate documentation for tracking accounts payable.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversees the management of account records by compiling and analyzing financial activities.
  • Prepares and maintains financial statements and documentation regarding the financial status of the division to facilitate reporting and audits as required.
  • Reviews financial documents for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Processes payroll change requests to reflect staffing adjustments within the division.
  • Contributes to the formulation and evaluation of annual budgets and performance forecasts to support company growth.
  • Monitors and suggests enhancements to policies and procedures within the assigned market area to meet business requirements.
  • Provides support to the Region Controller, Regional Vice President, and Operations Management to ensure the successful execution of financial projects.
  • Engages in training and development opportunities to broaden knowledge of the company, its products, sales, and services, while performing additional duties as necessary to align with the company’s vision and core values.

Career Level Definitions

Level 1: Demonstrates a foundational understanding of operational and financial functions. Capable of participating in month-end closing processes, including posting accruals for missed transactions, preparing balance reconciliations, inventory adjustments, and revenue entries. Familiar with systems such as NetSuite, ADP, and Trux/SoftPak.

Level 2: Exhibits confidence in utilizing purchase orders within NetSuite and is adept at using master spreadsheets in Longview for Excel. Willing to learn to create ad hoc reports through analysis and reporting. Understands the components of net revenue for hauling operations and SOX controls related to these operations.

Education, Experience & Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of relevant accounting experience. Must be legally authorized to work in the US. A proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment is essential.

Exceptional relationship management skills, along with strong listening, communication, and problem-solving abilities, are expected. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications, particularly Excel, is required.
