This position necessitates making significant technical contributions to establish project direction. Responsibilities include operating small-scale treatment systems.

The successful candidate will act as Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI on various projects, guiding junior scientists, engineers, and technicians while integrating the diverse skills of team members.

This may involve assisting with project scoping, scheduling, and budgeting. A disciplined approach to experimental planning, execution, and reporting is essential.

The candidate will be expected to produce high-quality technical reports and presentations that clearly communicate objectives, methodologies, results, and conclusions in a comprehensive manner.

This role will require handling both sensitive and non-sensitive information, and the candidate should exhibit the ability to manage confidential business matters effectively.

Essential Duties Include:

  • Designing, developing, and operating processes or unit operations to produce a wide array of products.
  • Assessing and modifying the chemical properties of various materials used in the creation of new products.
  • Designing, modeling, evaluating, and implementing chemical processes, instrumentation, and equipment to ensure engineering effectiveness.
  • Conducting trials, tests, and experiments to support engineering, production, and research activities.

Utilizing principles from chemistry, nuclear science, biology, physics, material science, mathematics, and engineering to address challenges related to the production, utilization, or transformation of chemicals, materials, and energy.

Employing biological principles and engineering tools to replicate biological systems for product development or to modify and control biological systems for the enhancement of chemical and mechanical processes.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience -OR- a Master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience -OR- a PhD with 1+ year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

A PhD in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, nuclear engineering, chemistry, or a related field with 3 years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in the same fields with 5 years of relevant experience.

Proven experience in plant systems design and/or systems engineering within an operational plant environment.

Experience with air pollution control systems and continuous emissions monitoring.

Familiarity with NQA-1 Quality Assurance standards and a demonstrated ability to apply quality assurance principles to testing and analysis activities.

Membership in a professional society/community is a plus.

Working Conditions

Potential exposure to hazardous chemicals and controlled levels of ionizing radiation may occur.

Experimental tasks may involve working with radiological materials and typical laboratory chemicals and equipment, which are carefully assessed and managed to mitigate hazards.

The selected candidate will need to qualify as a Radiological Worker I or II to support testing in designated radioactive areas.
