Job Title: Prevention Specialist

Hope For Youth is seeking a part-time Prevention Specialist to join our team. As a Prevention Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing education, support, and tools to children, adults, families, and community stakeholders to prevent substance and alcohol use.

Job Summary:

The Prevention Specialist will be responsible for presenting evidence-based curricula, such as "Too Good for Drugs," in elementary school classrooms and leading community awareness events in the Town of Babylon. This is a grant-funded position through the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and implement education programs for elementary students using the "Too Good for Drugs" Curriculum.
  2. Implement strategies to raise awareness of alcohol and drug-related issues in the community.
  3. Conduct surveys to develop new prevention and education initiatives.
  4. Develop and coordinate community events on gambling awareness, prevention, and substance awareness and prevention.
  5. Attend trainings and professional development as assigned.
  6. Attend meetings as assigned.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher.
  • At least one year of experience working with children and adolescents.
  • Demonstrated computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical record systems.
  • Physical requirements include lifting/moving up to 50 pounds, escorting children and youth, and restraining a child or youth during a crisis.
