Job Summary

The City of Norfolk Department of Utilities is seeking a highly skilled Financial Analyst III to join our Accounting and Budget Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for analyzing, preparing, and maintaining schedules for financial statement preparation and other department reporting needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Financial Statement Preparation: Assist in the preparation of operating budgets, capital improvement budgets, and budget variance reporting.
  • Fund Accounting: Perform fund accounting functions, develop worksheets on pension and other post-employment benefits financial data, and ensure the integrity and accuracy of automated financial accounting systems and related reports.
  • Financial Analysis: Complete special projects, including researching and preparing financial analysis, and developing complex financial reports in compliance with GASB guidelines.
  • Technology and Information Management: Manage new technology and information by updating policies and procedures.
  • Financial Reporting: Research, analyze, and summarize various financial records to develop financial reports.
  • Annual Audit: Complete analysis and workpapers as assigned in the annual audit.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent.
  • Experience: Three years of experience in accounting or finance, with a preference for five years of experience.
  • Skills: Broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Work Environment

This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus. The work environment is fast-paced and dynamic, with a focus on delivering high-quality financial reporting and analysis.
