Position Overview

The Senior Engineer, Enterprise Systems is tasked with overseeing the configuration, deployment, management, and administration of specific third-party enterprise systems and custom in-house applications/services, both on-premises and in the Cloud. This role entails providing technical leadership for the support and implementation (and upgrades) of these applications and their associated environments/servers (both on-premises and Cloud).

This position will also evaluate emerging technologies, including Cloud services, and assess their effective utilization within the White & Case environment.

Our Technology Division

Technology at White & Case is integral to empowering our legal professionals in practicing law on a global scale.

Our division consists of three primary functions: Business Services - responsible for maintaining, developing, and supporting our enterprise systems; Operations - tasked with designing, building, and supporting our communications and data center operations; and Support Services - providing desktop, meeting, and training support in the Firm's offices. Together, we equip our legal professionals with cutting-edge technology and systems to deliver elite legal services and exceptional client care.

Our diverse and globally minded team encompasses a variety of technical disciplines and business skill sets, including business analysts, data architects, application developers, and engineering personnel. We cover a broad spectrum of technologies, including virtualization, cloud computing, networking, storage, collaboration services, and security. Our state-of-the-art offices are equipped with the latest technology and hardware, and our technical support staff are dedicated to training our personnel on the newest hardware and operating systems, remote working capabilities, and mobile devices. Our Shared Services centers provide Service Desk, Security, and Network Operation Centers that offer continuous support and monitoring of Firm systems around the clock.

We work closely with our business services colleagues to support the Firm's Finance, People, and Marketing departments. The Technology division is central to the Firm's global operations.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Installation, management, and technical ownership of both MS-Windows and Linux-based application/web/database servers (on-premises and Cloud)
  • Implementation and server-side technical ownership for DBMS servers (MS-SQL Server, MongoDB, etc.)
  • Implementation and third-level support for critical third-party and custom enterprise systems
    • Develop, enhance, and enforce Firm standards and policies related to software management and deployment
  • Coordinate the scheduling of maintenance tasks to ensure application availability and optimization.
  • Ensure data integrity and availability through the implementation of security, backup, and recovery plans and controls.
  • Collaborate with legal and administrative staff to understand business needs and assess, coordinate, and oversee the deployment of solutions while providing technical leadership.
  • Ensure a clear planning process is followed, including a well-defined scope of deliverables and a continuous communication process to manage client expectations.
  • Proactively report project risks and deliverable issues to superiors and clients for immediate mitigation or resolution.
  • Maintain and assist with vendor relations.
  • Collaborate with business teams to develop and direct multi-year roadmaps for critical applications.
  • Continuously enhance technical skills through training, seminars, and education in new server-side technologies and environments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science required; graduate degree preferred
  • Strong hands-on experience in the administration of MS-Windows and Linux application servers - App/Web and Database servers
  • Proficient in writing Bash and Powershell scripts for application/system deployment and administration tasks
  • Experience deploying and utilizing APIs, including Web services (REST) and RPC protocol
  • Familiarity with application architecture, including Cloud applications and integrations; in hybrid and multi-cloud deployments
  • Experience with application/server/performance troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of website management (IIS & Apache)
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (AzureDevOps) and building CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP, HTTPS) and configuration
  • Experience with performance monitoring, database optimization, and index utilization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to facilitate collaborative efforts.
  • Ability to work productively with a diverse range of individuals and effectively present information to clients and senior management.
  • Capability to manage project commitments to ensure timely and budget-compliant project delivery.
  • Experience with the following technologies is a definite plus:
    • Enterprise systems like Elite-3E
    • DBMSs - Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, SnowFlake, CosmoDB
    • Integration platforms - Boomi, Integration Builder, BizTalk
    • Enterprise Scheduler - ActiveBatch
    • API Tools - Python, Postman, R
    • Monitoring/Auditing tools - Solar Winds, SQL Sentry, Splunk, CyberArk.

  • This role is based in our Tampa or New York office.
  • This role reports to the Applications Engineering Manager.
