Position Overview

The Senior Engineer, Enterprise Systems is tasked with overseeing the configuration, deployment, management, and administration of specific third-party enterprise systems and custom in-house applications/services, both on-premises and in the Cloud. This role entails providing technical leadership for the support and implementation (and upgrades) of these applications and their associated environments/servers (both on-premises and Cloud).

This position will also evaluate emerging technologies, including Cloud services, and determine their effective utilization within the White & Case framework.

Our Technology Division

Technology at White & Case is integral to empowering our attorneys in their legal practice globally.

Our division comprises three key functions: Business Services - responsible for maintaining, developing, and supporting our enterprise systems; Operations - focused on designing, building, and supporting our communication and data center operations; and Support Services - providing desktop, meeting, and training assistance in the Firm's offices. Together, we equip our attorneys with cutting-edge technology and systems to deliver exceptional legal services and best-in-class client support.

Our diverse and globally-minded team encompasses a variety of technical disciplines and business skill sets, including business analysts, data architects, application developers, and engineering professionals. We cover a broad spectrum of technologies, including virtualization, cloud computing, networking, storage, collaboration services, and security. Our state-of-the-art offices are equipped with the latest technology and hardware, and our technical support staff train our personnel on the newest hardware and operating systems, remote working capabilities, and mobile devices. Our Shared Services centers provide Service Desk, Security, and Network Operation Centers that monitor and support Firm systems around the clock.

Collaborating closely with our business services colleagues, the Technology division is central to the Firm's global operations.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • Installation, management, and technical oversight of both MS-Windows and Linux-based application/web/database servers (on-premises and Cloud)
  • Implementation and server-side technical management for DBMS servers (MS-SQL Server, MongoDB, etc.)
  • Implementation and third-level support for critical third-party and custom enterprise systems
    • Develop, enhance, and enforce Firm standards and policies regarding Software Management and Deployment
  • Coordinate maintenance task scheduling to ensure application availability and optimization.
  • Ensure data integrity and availability through the implementation of security, backup, and recovery plans and controls.
  • Collaborate with legal and administrative personnel to understand business requirements and assess, coordinate, and oversee solution deployment while providing technical leadership.
  • Ensure adherence to a clear planning process, including a well-defined scope of deliverables and continuous communication to manage client expectations.
  • Proactively report project risks and deliverable issues to superiors and clients for immediate resolution.
  • Maintain and assist with vendor relationships.
  • Work with business teams to develop and direct multi-year roadmaps for critical applications.
  • Continuously enhance technical skills through training, seminars, and education in new server-side technologies and environments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science required; graduate degree preferred
  • Strong hands-on experience in the administration of MS-Windows and Linux application servers - App/Web and Database servers
  • Proficient in writing Bash and Powershell scripts for application/system deployment and administration tasks
  • Experience deploying and utilizing APIs, including Web services (REST) and RPC protocol
  • Familiarity with Application Architecture, including Cloud Applications and Integrations; in Hybrid & Multi-Cloud Deployments
  • Experience with Application/Server/Performance Troubleshooting
  • Knowledge of Website Management (IIS & Apache)
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (AzureDevOps) and building CI/CD pipelines
  • Understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, SNMP, HTTPS) and configuration
  • Experience with performance monitoring, database optimization, and index utilization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to facilitate collaborative efforts.
  • Ability to work productively with a diverse range of individuals and effectively present information to clients and senior management.
  • Proven ability to manage project commitments to ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.
