Job Overview:


The Project Engineering Manager will oversee all facets of project engineering and design team operations in North America, ensuring project designs align with established schedules and budgets while managing overall risk levels.

The objectives for the Project Engineering Manager include:

Maintain professional standards for all designs and review work;

Lead the project engineering team at both internal and external levels;

Comprehend the scope of work, contract stipulations, and supply limitations;

Coordinate all project engineering activities to finalize project designs;

Achieve or enhance project timelines; Adhere to or improve budgetary constraints for all project engineering tasks; Meet or exceed quality benchmarks;

Identify and propose potential cost-effective design enhancements;

Become a technical authority in one or more areas of Anaergia's offerings.

Support Business Development and Proposals teams.

Job Responsibilities:

Key Tasks for the Project Engineering Manager:


The Project Engineering Manager is expected to execute the following tasks with minimal supervision, acting as a technical lead on projects under the guidance of the Director of Engineering.

Manage, plan, schedule, and review work to deliver engineering outputs and milestones to business stakeholders.

Plan project engineering activities for all assigned projects and monitor progress in accordance with the established schedule;

Organize the general document list in agreement with the Director of PE, ensuring compliance with contracts and resource availability;


Oversee multiple concurrent multidisciplinary projects, conducting regular reviews, prioritizing tasks, and reporting to stakeholders to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion.

Collaborate with the Director of PE to define the budget for Project Engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle;

Participate in departmental budget setting and manage expenditures with regular reviews;

Provide the Director of PE with updates on design status and budget to proactively identify risks and plan solutions;


Deliver technical specifications and tender documents for material procurement in line with supply terms and design data.

Offer technical support to clients as needed under the Director of PE's guidance;

Conduct technical reviews of third-party design consultants;

Evaluate equipment proposals and submissions;

Verify all licensing documents and incorporate permit conditions;

Facilitate regular design review meetings with the project team;

Ensure quality and reliability are prioritized in all team deliverables.

Create risk assessments for each project to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring compliance with local standards for each specific project;

Organize weekly meetings to share and update progress on engineering activities and address any emerging issues;


Hold bi-weekly meetings with relevant personnel to discuss technical improvements and solutions.

Involve the Project Engineering Leader (PEL) as necessary;

Authority of the Project Engineering Manager:
Manage T&L costs in alignment with the budget set by the Director of Engineering.

Safety and Quality Responsibilities


The Project Engineering Manager is accountable for the strict adherence to company standards and regulations regarding engineering activities, ensuring the accuracy of provided information and compliance with contract specifications for each project.

Safety compliance is a top priority for Anaergia.


Throughout the design process, the Project Engineering Manager must evaluate health and safety risks across all project phases (design, construction, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning) and take appropriate actions to eliminate or mitigate risks while advising all involved parties of any remaining hazards.


Job Requirements:
Education

A technical diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

A minimum of 15 years of experience in Project Engineering, Design Engineering, or project management within the Industrial Plant sector, preferably with experience in anaerobic digestion, biogas, wastewater treatment, or solid waste management.

Proficient in all MS Office applications and adaptable to new digital tools.

Experienced in plant design and process engineering.

Technical Competencies

The Project Engineering Manager should possess the following technical skills:

Understanding of contract specifications and supply limitations for complex mechanical plant design;

Foundational knowledge of Mechanical/Hydraulic design, Electrical Design, and Control systems;

Familiarity with national and international regulations governing waste treatment, renewable energy, and biogas plant design;

Experience in managing relationships with all stakeholders involved in project design;

Fluency in English.

Cross-Functional Competencies

To effectively prioritize tasks, the Project Engineering Manager must recognize how their activities impact other functions and how those functions can positively or negatively influence project execution goals.

Competencies include:
Basic understanding of project management principles and how decisions affect project budgets and timelines;

Comprehension of sales strategies and their influence on the engineering process, as well as how engineering can impact sales;

Familiarity with procurement strategies for products, contracting, and services, particularly concerning:

High volume/value items (synergies/standardized products)

Critical items (e.g., limited suppliers, long lead times, etc.).

Biogas-specific competencies;

Waste Treatment-specific competencies;

Wastewater Treatment Plant-specific competencies.

Hierarchy

The Project Engineering Manager reports directly to the Director of Engineering.

In summary, for specific projects, the Project Engineering Manager is responsible for:

Delivering assigned tasks consistently (in quality and quantity)

Adhering to budgetary constraints
