Job Overview:


The Project Engineering Manager will oversee all facets of project engineering and design team operations in North America, ensuring project designs are completed in alignment with schedules and budgets while managing overall risk levels.

Key Objectives:

The objectives of the Project Engineering Manager include:

1. Upholding professional standards for all designs and reviewing work;
2. Leading the project engineering team at both internal and external levels;
3. Comprehending the scope of work, contract requirements, and supply limits;
4. Coordinating all project engineering activities to finalize project designs;
5. Meeting or exceeding project schedules and budgets for all engineering activities;
6. Identifying and proposing potential cost-effective design improvements;
7. Establishing expertise in one or more areas of Anaergia's technical offerings.

Job Responsibilities:

Key Tasks of the Project Engineering Manager:


The Project Engineering Manager is expected to execute the following tasks with minimal supervision, acting as a technical lead on projects:

1. Manage, plan, schedule, and review work to deliver engineering outputs and meet defined milestones for business stakeholders.
2. Plan project engineering activities for all assigned projects and monitor progress in accordance with the established schedule;
3. Organize the general document list in agreement with the Director of Project Engineering, ensuring compliance with contracts and resource availability;


4. Manage multiple concurrent multi-disciplinary projects, conducting regular reviews and prioritizing tasks to ensure timely and budget-compliant completion.

5. Collaborate with the Director of Project Engineering to establish the budget for project engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle;
6. Participate in setting departmental budgets and managing them through regular reviews;
7. Provide regular updates to the Director of Project Engineering regarding design status and budget to proactively identify risks and develop solutions;


8. Supply Project Managers with technical specifications and tender documents for material procurement in line with supply terms and design data.

9. Offer technical support to clients as needed under the guidance of the Director of Project Engineering;
10. Conduct technical reviews of third-party design consultants and equipment proposals;
11. Verify all licensing documents and incorporate permit conditions;
12. Coordinate regular design review meetings with the project team;
13. Ensure quality and reliability are prioritized in all team deliverables.

14. Create risk assessments for each project to identify risks and their mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with local standards for each specific project;
15. Organize weekly meetings to share updates on engineering activities and address any emerging issues;


16. Facilitate bi-weekly meetings with relevant stakeholders to discuss technical improvements and solutions.

Involve the Project Engineering Leader when necessary;

Authority of the Project Engineering Manager:
Authorize T&L costs in accordance with the budget set by the Director of Engineering.

Safety and Quality Responsibilities:
The Project Engineering Manager is accountable for the strict adherence to company rules and standards regarding engineering activities, ensuring the accuracy of provided information and compliance with contract specifications for each project.


Safety compliance is a top priority for Anaergia.


Throughout the design process, the Project Engineering Manager must evaluate all health and safety risks associated with each project phase (design, construction, operation, maintenance, and decommissioning) and take necessary actions to eliminate or mitigate these risks.


Job Requirements:
Education:
Possesses a technical diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
Minimum of 15 years of experience in Project Engineering, Design Engineering, or project management within the Industrial Plant sector, preferably with experience in anaerobic digestion, biogas, wastewater treatment, or solid waste management.
Technical Skills:
The Project Engineering Manager should have the following technical competencies:
1. Understanding of contract specifications and supply limits for complex mechanical plant design;
2. Fundamentals of Mechanical/Hydraulic design, Electrical Design, and Control systems;
3. Knowledge of national and international regulations for waste treatment, renewable energy, and biogas plant design;
4. Experience in managing relationships with all project design stakeholders;
5. Proficiency in English.
Cross-Functional Skills:
To effectively execute the role, the Project Engineering Manager must understand how their activities impact other functions and how other functions can influence project execution positively or negatively.

Competencies include:
1. Basic knowledge of project management and its impact on budget and schedule;
2. Understanding of sales strategies and their influence on the engineering process;
3. Familiarity with purchasing strategies for products, contracting, and services, focusing on:
- High volume/value items (synergies/standardized products)
- Critical items (limited suppliers, long lead times, etc.).
4. Specific competencies in biogas, waste treatment, and wastewater treatment plants.

Hierarchy:
The Project Engineering Manager reports to the Director of Engineering.

In summary, the Project Engineering Manager is responsible for delivering assigned tasks in terms of quality and quantity, adhering to budget constraints, and meeting project timelines.
