Key Responsibilities:


Reporting to the FEED Engineering Manager, you will be accountable for executing Front Engineering activities for Small Modular Reactors, Advanced Modular Reactors, and Fusion projects.

The Principal Engineer will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and will lead an engineering design team to deliver project scope.


Core Duties:
  • Assume ownership and accountability for the delivery of power station systems.
  • Lead Optioneering Studies at the initial stages to identify preferred solutions that align with client requirements and objectives.
  • Guide a team in the creation and evaluation of Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams, Layout Drawings, Component Sizing Calculations, Component and Equipment Datasheets and Specifications, and other design-related documents.
  • Oversee the development of Design Description Documents, Requirement Specifications, and other design-related activities.
  • Integrate developed systems within the broader plant framework and act as the technical lead for specific scopes.
  • Facilitate Design Reviews and lead HAZID/HAZOP studies with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure compliance with company health and safety policies and adherence to the project and Quality Management System.

Qualifications:


Your Background:

Extensive experience in the nuclear sector or other highly regulated industries such as thermal power generation, oil and gas, or process sectors is preferred.

Familiarity with thermal power systems and equipment, including steam turbines, condensers, feedwater heaters, pumps, and piping systems, or nuclear power plants is advantageous.

You should possess a solid understanding of optioneering and have experience conducting studies that assess viable options, demonstrating previous experience in making ALARP and BAT arguments for selected technical options.

Experience in mentoring and developing junior staff, along with leading small teams, is essential. Strong communication skills and the ability to engage with both internal and external stakeholders are required. Knowledge of ASME, European, and UK codes and standards, including an understanding of Product Safety Legislation and its technical requirements, is important. Familiarity with requirements management and systems engineering is desirable.

Results-driven, capable of working independently and proactively as part of a team, with strong organizational skills. Ability to handle confidential and sensitive nuclear information professionally and in compliance with export control obligations.

A Bachelor's degree or Higher National Diploma in an engineering discipline is required. CEng in a relevant discipline or progress towards Professional Registration is preferred. Candidates must be British Nationals eligible to obtain and maintain full UK security clearance (SC).
