Laboratory Technician/Specimen Collector

POSITION OVERVIEW
Responsible for the collection of biological specimens from both adult and pediatric patients, including venous, capillary, and blood culture samples. This role involves entering laboratory tests into the laboratory information system, managing requisition processing, handling phone inquiries, performing general administrative tasks, and providing customer service. Compliance with all organizational and laboratory protocols is essential.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Adheres to attendance and punctuality standards set by the organization.
2. Executes all responsibilities in accordance with the core values, mission, and vision of Phoebe Physicians.
3. Undertakes additional tasks as necessary and fulfills all job functions in line with departmental policies.
4. Maintains up-to-date knowledge in relevant areas of responsibility through self-education and participation in ongoing training programs.
5. Attends team meetings and completes mandatory training and competency evaluations in a timely manner.
6. Demonstrates proficiency in providing care to all patients, considering age, gender, weight, and specific needs. For non-clinical roles, has completed training and exhibits age-appropriate customer service skills.
7. Utilizes protective clothing and equipment as required.

Must hold and maintain a valid driver's license and meet auto insurance requirements as stipulated by the organization.


WORK ENVIRONMENT

General Setting:
Operates in a well-lit, climate-controlled environment with moderate noise levels.
May encounter limited hazardous materials or biological fluids, as well as infectious agents.
May need to transition between various tasks of differing nature without a decline in efficiency or composure.
Periods of heightened stress and variable workloads may be experienced.
May be required to work additional hours as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND
High School Diploma or equivalent (Mandatory)

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum of 6 months of experience in phlebotomy (Mandatory)
