We are seeking a skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Baptist Health System KY & IN. As a Medical Laboratory Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform and interpret technical procedures in assigned departments, adhering to established policies and procedures within set turn-around times.
  • Document results accurately, reviewing for accuracy, validity, and reasonableness, and investigating any questionable results prior to reporting.
  • Conduct quality control, start-up, and maintenance procedures according to established protocols.
  • Investigate, resolve, and document quality control or maintenance out-of-control instances according to protocol.
  • Communicate with physicians, nurses, and other hospital staff regarding panic values and results that do not appear appropriate for the patient.
  • Assist with the training and direction of Medical Lab Techs, Lab Aides, and new employees in the department.
  • Assist with the collection of specimens, ensuring proper patient identification and labeling.
  • Maintain required documentation in accordance with guidelines established by regulatory agencies and laboratory policy.
  • Monitor and receive supplies into the department, storing them appropriately, and notifying the supervisor when supplies appear to be low.

Requirements:

  • Baccalaureate degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or Medical Technology with ASCP or AMT certification or eligibility to take the certification required.
  • Applicants must obtain MLS or MT (ASCP) or MT (AMT) certification within 6 months of the job entry date.
  • Previous work experience in high complexity testing is preferred.
