Overview:

The role focuses on providing strategic insight and leadership to foster an environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion. Collaborates with organizational leaders to execute DEI initiatives effectively and nurtures a culture of inclusivity.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Collaborate closely with the DEI team, organizational leadership, and various community groups to shape and implement the diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy of Akron Children's Hospital.

2. Promote a culture that values awareness, appreciation, and active engagement in diversity and inclusion efforts.

3. Work in partnership with the DEI Training and Development Manager to deliver educational programs that enhance understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion among employees.

4. Oversee the tracking and reporting of all DEI-related activities across the organization, including those involving minority-owned businesses, and provide insights on the return on investment for these initiatives.

· Serve as the primary contact for DEI surveys and data requests, providing consultation and support as needed.

· Act as the liaison for external survey inquiries.

· Collaborate with the DEI Trainer to analyze and consult on data with internal stakeholders.

· Partner with the DEI Director to develop a framework for a comprehensive Supplier Diversity Program.

· Research and promote best practices and metrics that enhance operational purchasing power with diverse business entities.

5. Foster employee engagement through various committees and initiatives that support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, while proposing innovative programs to enhance these efforts.

· Conduct research on DEI best practices and trends relevant to the organization's strategy and workforce needs.

· Develop and manage the annual DEI Calendar, ensuring effective program execution.

· Stay informed about current DEI trends and practices.

6. Establish and oversee Employee Resource Groups (ERGs), ensuring alignment with organizational goals and DEI strategies.

7. Serve as a Cultural Competency Subject Matter Expert (SME), providing guidance on practices that meet the diverse needs of patients, families, and staff.

8. Act as a liaison with external diversity consultants as directed by leadership.

9. Assist in managing DEI vendors and contracts, including research, execution, and oversight of partnerships.

10. May act as a liaison to various hospital departments regarding DEI initiatives.

11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Technical Skills:

  1. Experience engaging with multiple organizational levels, including executives and healthcare professionals.
  2. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software is essential.
  3. Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills are required.

Education and Experience:

1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; a Master’s degree is preferred.

2. Certification as a Certified Diversity Professional (CDP) is desirable.

3. Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience is required.
