Overview: A prominent Precast Manufacturer is seeking a Chief Estimator with extensive experience in precast concrete to enhance their esteemed team. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 7 years in estimating for bridge construction and rehabilitation, complemented by a degree in civil or structural engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
- Evaluate contract documents to identify the precast scope of work, focusing on diverse projects such as parking structures, educational institutions, correctional facilities, and other innovative concrete applications.
- Conduct precise takeoffs of precast components.
- Employ Excel spreadsheets to analyze costs related to plant operations, freight, and field activities for the project.
- Develop comprehensive estimates.
- Continuously enhance the Estimating program and reports using Excel.
- Offer recommendations for improving cost estimating processes to minimize discrepancies between estimated and actual costs.
- Maintain a thorough post-project analysis report.
- Draft project proposals.
- Engage with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders to discuss estimates and resolve any issues.
- Perform cost evaluations of precast framing systems and explore value engineering options as necessary.
- Keep track of weekly plant reports comparing estimated versus actual costs.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of engineering principles.
Cost Estimating Management: Organize and oversee a centralized cost estimating database and formalize processes to support effective cost estimation.
- Analyze completed projects to assess variances between estimated and actual costs, identifying reasons for discrepancies.
- Update material costs quarterly to ensure accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Education: An Associate's Degree is preferred.
- Experience: 7 to 10+ years of relevant precast experience is preferred; similar backgrounds may be considered.
- Supervisory Experience: Required.
