Position Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and skilled Route Operations Supervisor. The successful candidate will be adept at optimizing routing solutions in response to operational challenges and customer service needs. They will efficiently manage work assignments during critical operational moments, ensuring that department heads are kept informed and that drivers receive timely updates. This role is essential in maintaining smooth operations while minimizing daily expenses and liabilities. The ideal candidate will foster positive relationships and communicate effectively with customers, colleagues, and external vendors. Ultimately, this position is accountable for achieving daily business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily operational tasks such as route efficiency, scheduling, and departmental management
  • Plan new routes and adjust existing ones as necessary
  • Assist management in the recruitment, training, and evaluation of personnel
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from management
  • Provide direct supervision to employees
  • Ensure a safe working environment for all employees, promoting safety and compliance with regulations
    • Contribute to safety meetings based on observations from daily operations
    • Implement strategies to reduce workplace injuries and company losses
  • Mentor and coach employees to enhance their skills
  • Utilize systems and processes to drive continuous improvement
  • Maintain high standards of customer service
  • Ensure customer satisfaction through effective communication and adherence to company procedures:
    • Engage with customers as needed, employing effective communication skills
    • Develop customer service protocols aimed at achieving mutually beneficial outcomes
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations for employees
  • Conduct inspections of various establishments as required
  • Support management in achieving company objectives
  • Cross-train and perform additional duties as assigned
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Understanding of DOT regulations regarding hours and weight limits
  • Familiarity with service line ordinances and ability to enforce them fairly
  • Strong planning, coordination, and supervisory skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports
  • Excellent organizational and administrative skills
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient in dispatch procedures and relevant software
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Experience in transportation coordination and routing, preferably in waste management
  • Valid State of Florida CDL preferred with appropriate endorsements
  • At least 3 years of experience in operations within transportation and logistics
  • A minimum of 1 year of customer service experience, along with strong time management and problem-solving abilities
Department of Transportation Requirements:
  • Possess a valid, non-commercial driver's license
  • At least 21 years of age
  • Minimum of two years of driving experience
  • No active suspensions on driving record
  • Valid medical examiner's certificate
  • Able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience as a waste disposal driver
  • Knowledge of route analysis and logistics
  • Familiarity with lean/process improvement methodologies
