Role Responsibilities:
The Transportation Operations Supervisor will oversee the daily management of drivers and transit operations. This role ensures that driver teams are held accountable across all service lines. The supervisor will assist the management team in safeguarding all assets and liabilities while prioritizing efficient workflow and daily operational targets. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing daily operations, including route efficiency and scheduling.
- Planning new routes and adjusting existing ones as necessary.
- Supporting the management team in the recruitment, training, placement, safety, evaluation, and discipline of personnel.
- Responding promptly to inquiries from management.
- Providing direct supervision to employees.
- Maintaining a safe and secure work environment to ensure all employees return home safely each day.
- Contributing to safety meetings based on observations from daily operations.
- Implementing strategies to reduce workers' compensation costs and company losses.
- Offering mentoring, coaching, and skill development to team members.
- Utilizing systems, equipment, and process redesign to promote continuous improvement.
- Ensuring high-quality customer service and satisfaction by adhering to company procedures.
- Contacting customers as needed, employing effective communication skills.
- Developing customer service response protocols aimed at achieving mutually beneficial outcomes.
- Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations among employees.
- Conducting field inspections of various establishments.
- Assisting management in achieving company objectives.
- Cross-training and performing additional duties as assigned.
Essential Skills and Knowledge:
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Understanding of DOT hour and weight regulations.
- Knowledge of service line ordinances, rules, and regulations, with the ability to enforce them fairly and tactfully.
- Capability to plan, coordinate, schedule, and supervise effectively.
- Proficiency in maintaining detailed records and preparing activity reports.
- Strong administrative skills, including workflow prioritization and organization.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, at all levels.
- Familiarity with dispatch procedures and relevant software.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience in transportation coordination and routing, preferably in solid waste or a related field.
- Valid CDL with preferred endorsements.
- A minimum of three years of experience in transportation and logistics operations.
- At least one year of customer service experience, with strong time management and problem-solving abilities.
- Compliance with Department of Transportation requirements.
- Valid non-commercial driver's license.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- At least two years of driving experience.
- No active suspensions on driving record.
- Valid medical examiner's certificate.
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as a waste disposal driver.
- Knowledge of route analysis and logistics.
- Familiarity with lean/process improvement methodologies.
