Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our Division of Rehabilitative Services, you will play a critical role in assisting individuals with disabilities to achieve their employment goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services to clients with disabilities, including guidance and counseling, employment training, education, physical/mental restoration, and job placement services.
  • Develop and implement individualized plans to help clients achieve their employment goals, in partnership with the Virginia Career Works Network.
  • Collaborate with clients, employers, and other stakeholders to deliver quality workforce services and promote employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify clients' strengths, needs, and barriers to employment, and develop strategies to overcome these challenges.
  • Provide training and education to clients on job search skills, resume writing, and interview preparation, as well as on-the-job training and placement services.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of rehabilitation services, and make recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
  • Masters' degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a closely related field, with a minimum of 2 years of experience in vocational rehabilitation or a related field.
  • Current CRC credential, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong knowledge of the social, economic, medical, vocational, and emotional issues impacting persons with disabilities, as well as interviewing, evaluation, and counseling techniques.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, employers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines, and to adapt to changing circumstances and priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance requirements.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, including those with physical, mental, and emotional disabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and creatively.
  • Ability to work in a team environment, with a focus on collaboration and customer service.
