AC Transit is seeking an experienced Journey Level Mechanic to join our team. As a Journey Level Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, inspecting, and repairing defective coach components, sub-components, and systems on District vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:- Diagnose and repair complex mechanical issues on buses and other vehicles
- Inspect and maintain vehicle systems, including hydraulic and electrical systems, brakes, and air conditioning systems
- Perform major overhauls, tune-ups, and repairs to brakes and steering systems
- Change windows and seats, and perform minor body repair
- Operate buses to diagnose component failure, make roadside repairs, or move disabled buses
- Document all work performed, including record of repairs on driver's defect cards and submit daily lift status reports to supervisor
- Four (4) years of recent and verifiable experience as an automotive mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic
- Equivalent to completion of the 12th grade, plus verified completion of an external two (2) year training program in automotive or heavy-duty truck maintenance and repair from an accredited trade or vocational school
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age
- Must have a clean driving record
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to seventy (70) lbs.
