Job Description

In the role of Hazardous Waste Management Specialist, the successful candidate will engage with technical and operational teams to address the regulated waste management requirements at our facilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Participating in the planning phases of testing, renovation, construction, demolition, and maintenance activities that generate regulated waste.
  • Advising the project execution team on waste management strategies and alternatives.
  • Providing engineering support to implement the chosen waste management strategy in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinating the characterization of expected waste streams through process knowledge or sampling methods.
  • Conducting engineering assessments of waste management practices to ensure alignment with training and documented procedures.

The candidate will perform engineering evaluations and analyses, making informed decisions regarding all aspects of assigned tasks, including the assessment of waste streams based on process knowledge or analytical data.

Additionally, the candidate will determine suitable treatment and disposal locations for waste streams, ensuring compliance with acceptance criteria for selected sites.

Training will be provided to ensure the candidate acquires the necessary qualifications to characterize waste in accordance with federal (RCRA and TSCA), state, and local regulations.

Required Knowledge and Skills

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related scientific field with 6 years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in engineering or a related scientific field with 4 years of relevant experience; or equivalent qualifications in nuclear operations.

Preferred Skills

Experience in:

  • Identifying treatment and/or disposal sites for hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste.
  • Certifying that waste meets all acceptance criteria for the designated treatment/disposal site.
