We are seeking a highly skilled Regulated Waste Management Scientist to join our team at the Naval Nuclear Laboratory. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
Key Responsibilities- Engage in the planning stages of testing, renovation, construction, demolition, and maintenance work that will generate regulated waste.
- Recommend waste management approaches and alternatives to the project execution team.
- Provide engineering support for implementing the selected waste management approach in accordance with federal, state, and local requirements.
- Coordinate characterization of anticipated waste streams using process knowledge or sampling.
- Coordinate and perform engineering surveillances of waste management practices to verify the alignment with personnel training and written instructions.
- Perform engineering evaluations and analysis and make engineering decisions for all aspects of assigned tasks, including the evaluation of waste streams based upon process knowledge or analytical results.
- Determine the appropriate treatment and disposal site for waste streams.
- Certify that wastes meets all acceptance criteria for the selected treatment/disposal site.
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or
- Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or
- EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or
- 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or
- SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.
- Background in determining treatment and/or disposal site for hazardous, radioactive, or mixed waste.
- Certifying wastes meets all acceptance criteria for the selected treatment/disposal site.
