Our mission includes training the Sailors who operate these reactors within the U.S. Navy's submarines and aircraft carrier fleets.
Position Overview
The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is looking for a dedicated Nuclear Waste Management Technologist to enhance our team. The ideal candidate will engage with both technical and operational staff to effectively manage regulated waste across our facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop work packages to support Nuclear Test Operations (NTO) personnel in the generation, handling, and establishment of temporary waste storage areas.
- Participate in the planning phases of work that will produce waste streams within the NTO division and propose waste management strategies.
- Assist in ensuring that all necessary waste disposition documents and labels are present before waste generation, and that waste storage areas are properly set up.
- Evaluate and incorporate new chemicals into our processes, maintaining and updating the chemical inventory list and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for the NTO division.
- Support Nuclear Test Engineering by creating comprehensive work packages.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess either:
- An Associate's degree in a technical, engineering, or science-related field with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience; or
- A Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering, or science-related field.
Candidates must also maintain qualifications to characterize waste in compliance with federal (RCRA and TSCA), state (DEP), and local regulations.
Additional Requirements
Personnel must qualify or be qualified as:
- A waste chemical representative
- A radiological waste representative
- A contamination worker
- A waste storage area manager/operator
- A waste generator transporter
