Clean Harbors is seeking a dedicated Environmental Field Chemist to manage, segregate, pack, and inspect chemical waste according to Federal/State/Local regulations and company policies. This role involves both indoor and outdoor work at various locations, including plants, labs, customer sites, and assisting with lab packs within facilities, household hazardous waste (HHW) collections, and lab moves.

This is a customer-facing position requiring strong communication and interpersonal skills. The Environmental Field Chemist will not be performing laboratory-based chemistry work.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prioritize health and safety by adhering to all safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepare computer-generated packing lists, labels, manifests, and land disposal restriction notifications.
  • Inspect staging, accumulating, and storage areas for proper housekeeping and compliance.
  • Examine storage areas and drums for leaks or spills.
  • Verify drum labeling compliance with regulations.
  • Collect, segregate, and properly package waste chemicals for disposal, maximizing efficiency and maintaining compliance.
  • Execute projects at Clean Harbors customer locations, including Fortune 500 companies.
  • Ensure final preparation and approval of all projects before shipment in accordance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company policies.
  • Conduct projects/jobs according to site-specific Federal, State, and local regulations and health and safety plans.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Obtain a CDL Class B with hazmat and tanker endorsement within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to perform physical functions as required by the job
  • Successfully complete a background check, drug test, and physical
  • Meet facial hair standards per OSHA's Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR ) for positions requiring respirators.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • College degree in Chemistry or Natural Science
  • Previous experience in Environmental Services (e.g., remediation, abatement, emergency spill response)
